Synopsis

In this talk, the speaker will be discussing just how much modern computing already owes to the father of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud. High on the surprisingly long list of achievements is Freud's seminal work on the modular architecture of the human lexico-semantic system and the uncanny accuracy of his predictions of real-time biological control structures, sometimes a full lifetime before the machines existed to put his ideas into practice. The talk will also highlight a number of areas where Freud still has much to offer researchers in the domains of artificial intelligence in general, and artificial consciousness in particular.
