| Synopsis |
Wayne Horkan is the Chief Technology Officer for Sun Microsystems in the UK and Ireland. He represents the UK and Ireland Technical Community, providing leadership to the customer-facing Technology and Business Consultants in Sun's Global Sales and Services Organisation. Wayne has had an extensive career in IT/IS implementations for over 15 years: in former roles with Sun, Wayne successfully established Sun's technical leadership position and relevance in support of significant and strategic government programmes in the UK, along with substantial work in the finance and utilities markets. This includes, Enterprise Architecture definition and implementation, which he champions in the EMEA sector and across the World. He has significant delivery experience in Enterprise SOA and integration implementations, Datacentre build outs, major Internet, B2B and G2G systems, and national and international Identity Management systems. Passionate about technology and innovation, Wayne champions a number of major initiatives in the field of large scale and complex computing at Sun; including cloud computing, enterprise architecture, data centre economics and web science. He holds positions on the CBI's Innovation, Science and Technology (IST) working group, as well as with PITCOM and EURIM, and is a Chartered Fellow of the BCS, a Fellow of the IoD and a Senior Member of the IEEE. Wayne writes one of the most popular Sun blogs at: http://blogs.sun.com/eclectic/ Large (and, increasingly, smaller) enterprises have embraced Enterprise Architecture as a key tool to interpret and strategically manage the complexity of their IT estates, and it's not surprising that many of them have assembled large teams and spent many millions of pounds to achieve an 'Enterprise Architecture'. The case studies presented explore Wayne's experiences with Enterprise Architecture in three major customer engagements. They include an Enterprise Architecture team which led its company into a ú70+ million 'pitfall'; the use of Enterprise Architecture to define a Service Oriented Architecture; and an example of how much Enterprise Architecture is about achieving the proper governance model.
