| Description |
The Easy Link Vehicle Information
System (ELVIS) was designed in partnership between WPC Software
Limited and the Merseyside Police Vehicle Crime Group. Designed
to meet the needs of a modern police force, it doesn't just tackle
vehicle crime but also manages and makes available a whole range
of vehicular related data. Since its delivery in December 1999
the system has allowed police officers to access to vehicle information
when they need it not when they could get it. It has reduced
significantly the double keying of data and has interfaces with
Hire Purchase Information (Equifax), the Police National Computer
and the Force's crime recording system which has helped facilitate
a significant reduction in vehicle crime throughout the Force
as well as reducing the bureaucracy involved in vehicular processes.
Since its development in Merseyside, ELVIS has recently been
purchased by the Devon & Cornwall Constabulary to aid that
Force's vehicle strategy. Both Devon & Cornwall and Merseyside
Police are now using ELVIS as part of a multi-agency strategy
with Local Authoritys to deal with the growing number of abandoned
'end of life' vehicles being dumped on the streets in those Force
areas.
