| Brian Swindells
is Executive Chairman of Utility Link Ltd and a director of a
number of other companies including Avagio IT Services and
Wiltshire Energy Ltd, the latter being a developer of
application software for utilities. His other interests
include involvement in the Open University MBA programme, in
particular, the Creative Management module. He is also
Chairman of the Bristol branch of the BCS.
Utility Link provides services to UK utilities and was created as part of a management buyout (MBO) from Unit Energy AG. Brian was part of the MBO team of five and was Chief Executive of the company prior to becoming Chairman in June of this year.
Brian’s talk is based on his experiences in the various roles discussed above, using both theory and his practical experience in developing creative and profitable organisations. He discusses the pitfalls faced by all new ventures and reviews how to raise finance whilst still retaining control of your business.
Topics considered include: building an effective team, sources of finance, developing your business plan and managing your stakeholders. Whilst Brian’s most recent experience has been in the private sector he has previous involvement in a range of organisations including not for profit. The techniques reviewed in the presentation are therefore appropriate for many differing types of establishments.
The wealth created by such innovative, high achieving organisations can be used for whatever purposes the stakeholders decide including making your first million.
